Welcome to the official web site of The Clay Connection, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation registered in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our members are clay artists at all skill levels, from beginners to hobbyists to full-time professionals.

Established in 1991, The Clay Connection's mission--to promote clay arts in the metropolitan area of Washington, DC--is accomplished through four main goals:

  • Educating members about the art, styles, and techniques of pottery.
  • Promoting community awareness and appreciation of pottery as a hobby, a profession, and an art form.
  • Exposing members to the local, regional, national and international community of potters.
  • Pursuing other activities in accordance with the corporation's tax exempt status.

The intent of this website is to provide information on our history, organization, activities, and upcoming events. There is also a gallery of member work and a list of other resources for continued educational purposes.

Empty Bowls

Once again, we will be donating bowls made by our members to The Giving Circle Hope. The Giving Circle of Alexandria pools intellectual and financial resources with a strategic purpose to serve the Children, Youth and Families of Alexandria. This organization will hold an Empty Bowls supper and donate the funds raised to Food for Others, a group that works with the homeless in our area. This is a very worthy cause that we should all be very proud of supporting. However, this event is in trouble for lack of volunteers. In the past couple of years, 70%-80% of the bowls donated came from Board members.

We need volunteers to organize the collection of the bowls and we need you to pledge to donate bowls. Please send an e-mail to potters@theclayconnection.org (subject line: Empty Bowls Donation) and let us know how many bowls you will be donating.
