Each program covers topics of interest to the membership and features individuals who are well versed in the topic at hand. These events are open to the membership. Non-members are welcome to attend for a small contribution ($10.- $15.)

As part of its goal to promote community awareness and appreciation of pottery as a hobby, a profession, and an art form, members of The Clay Connection participate in various shows, exhibits and sales located throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area.

Bowl-a-thon

The first bowl-a-thon was so much fun we’ve decided to start having them throughout the year. The aim is to start now to make bowls that will be donated to the Giving Cir- cle of Hope for their Empty Bowls Supper in April 2011. This way we won’t have a mad scramble for bowls at the last minute. Join us at Creative Clay Studios from 4 to 8 pm. Just bring your tools, some clay (reclaim is OK), and a snack share, cookies and re- freshments will be provided. For additional information, contact: Barb Oksanen at barbo_2@hotmail.com

Understanding the Magic of
Glazes and Firing
A Workshop with John Britt

North Carolina potter and teacher, John Britt, presents an overview of ceramic glazes and glaze materials as well as different firing methods. The workshop includes a Cone 6 reduction firing of participants work using glazes developed by John, including shino, tenmoku, copper red and others! this is a fairly new process that has been getting a lot of attention because it is less expensive and relatively more environmentally friendly. For additional informatin, see John Britt's article in Ceramics Monthly (October 2008) and visit his website at www.johnbrittpottery.com.

Participants should bring bisqued pots to glaze on Friday evening using the glazes that John has developed for Cone 6 reduction firing. Each participant can bring 6 to 7 mug-sized pots (or what would fit inside a 12" by 12" space. Height limit 8" tall.). Detailed information will be sent after registration.

Location: Northern Virginia Community College (Alexandria Campus)
