Since its inception, The Clay Connection has sponsored Monthly Educational Programs.

Pots glazed with Floating Blue glaze, one of the glazes that participants can choose to mix during the Glaze-Making Workshop with Marianne Cordyack and Dick White, Sunday Feb 28 from 1-4PM.

Each program covers topics of interest to the membership and features individuals who are well versed in the topic at hand. These events are open to the membership. Non-members are welcome to attend for a small contribution ($10.- $15.)

As part of its goal to promote community awareness and appreciation of pottery as a hobby, a profession, and an art form, members of The Clay Connection participate in various shows, exhibits and sales located throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area.

Using Slip - Trailing and Resist with Dana Lehrer Danze

Lee Arts Center
5722 Lee Highway
Arlington, VA 22207

Bring:

  • A few leather hard pots to decorate (plates are good, but any shape you like is ok)
  • Several pounds of your own clay
  • A few bats
  • Throwing tools
  • Paint brushes
  • Leaves, twigs, or other objects you would like to press into the clay, which can also be used as resist for the slip (you can cut shapes out of paper, too)

Supplied:

  • Leather hard tiles
  • Practice quantities of white, black, and red slips, as well as a few commercial underglaze slips
  • Slip trailers

Glaze-making Workshop with Marianne Cordyack and Dick White

This workshop will include information on reading, understanding and following a glaze recipe. Included in this discussion will be the various glaze components and their pur- poses, as well as simple ways to begin experimenting with glaze tests. This will be a hands-on work- shop in which every participant will have the opportunity to mix a 6000 gram batch of a glaze of their choice. More information will be sent out later, including photos of examples of glazes that will be available to mix.

This workshop will take place at Marianne’s Reston studio from 1 to 4 pm. More information will be forthcoming and will be posted on the website as well as on the Facebook page.

**This workshop is free to Clay Connection and Creative Clay Studio members. Non- members are asked to contribute $10 to help cover cost associated with the event. All are welcome!
